University Ethics Regulations
The University requires that all its research staff act in accordance with the principles and rules laid down in the following regulations in every aspect of their research, including: research planning and submission of research proposals to funding bodies; the generation of data, its documentation, analysis and preservation; attribution of the research results, their publication, participation of others in them and their commercialization.
University regulations regarding ethics in research:
The Hebrew University Code of Conduct in Research
The Hebrew University Conflict of Interest Code
NIH - Financial conflict of interest (FCOI) Policy
Clarifications, comments and lessons regarding conflict of interest
- The information provided by a researcher to the Conflict of Interest Committee will be kept confidential.
- The information that will be available to the Conflict of Interest Committee will include the details of the business engagements discussed and / or signed by Yissum Co.
- Among US federal funders, a criterion for what is defined as a "financial conflict of interest" is common.
- According to this criterion, a researcher has a "financial conflict of interest" if he and / or a family member (spouse and minor children) have a "significant" financial interest in an economic entity that the research (planning, conducting and reporting on) may impact. The term "significant" is defined as over $ 10,000 or ownership exceeding 5% of the company's value. Of course, at the Hebrew University too, this - in addition to other criteria - is a criterion for a conflict of interest.
- Each research project requires at least one statement from one of the Principal Investigators. This statement will be kept within the research file at the Authority for Research and Development.
- The statements of the other participants in the research, whatever their status, will be kept by the above-mentioned Principal Investigator for at least two years from the end of the research.
- A Principal Investigator to whom a statement that includes notice of a conflict of interest in the research has been submitted by one of the workers collaborating with him and / or on his behalf in his research, will ascertain that the declarant notified the Vice President for Research and Development, in his capacity as Chairperson of the Conflict of Interest Committee, of such conflict.
Statements regarding research ethics:
- A faculty member who submits a research proposal must enter it into the Research System. At part of this process, a statement of proper conduct in research must be approved.
- A researcher who employs workers in research (including through the awarding of scholarships) must ensure that all those involved on his behalf in the research activity sign a statement of proper conduct and conflict of interest in research.
