University scholars produce a wealth of knowledge and the university is committed to disseminating this knowledge to anyone to whom it might be helpful, including to the academic community, to government agencies, the general public, and industry ("technology transfer").
Technology transfer is a way of transforming scientific productivity to tangible, practical technology for the good of society. Indeed, the university considers this one of its missions. The transfer of technology is done commercially as a way of returning to the public its investment in enabling the creation of knowledge from which industry profits.
Because of the specialized expertise required to deal with the commercial aspects of such knowledge, the university has delegated the Yissum Technology Transfer Company to administer all potentially commercial expertise and patents produced by its researchers.
