The ERC aims at an individual PI who leads a research team. If your research requires specific expertise you can include an expert collaborator in your team as long as you are the team leader and PI.

An ERC Synergy Grant aims to provide support for a small group of two to four Principal Investigators jointly addressing ambitious research problems that could not be addressed by the individual Principal Investigators and their teams working alone.
